Brownsville ISD to Hold Meeting on Renaming Elementary Schools
School Board to Consider Renaming Several Schools
The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) school board is scheduled to hold a meeting on March 2, 2023, to discuss the potential renaming of several elementary schools.
The meeting will be held at the BISD Administration Building located at 1900 E. Price Road, Brownsville, TX 78520. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and is open to the public.
The school board is considering renaming several schools that were named after historical figures who have been associated with racism or slavery. The schools under consideration for renaming include:
- Robert E. Lee Elementary School
- Stonewall Jackson Elementary School
- J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School
- Jefferson Davis Elementary School
The school board is expected to vote on the renaming of the schools at the March 2 meeting. The new names for the schools will be announced following the vote.
