Astros 6, Royals 3: Houston’s Eighth Inning Comeback Secures Victory

A Late Surge Lifts the Astros to Victory

The Houston Astros came from behind to defeat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Saturday, thanks to a big eighth inning. The Royals led 3-1 heading into the eighth, but the Astros scored five runs in the inning to take the lead for good.

The Astros' rally started with a leadoff double by Jose Altuve. Alex Bregman followed with a single to drive in Altuve and cut the lead to 3-2. Yordan Alvarez then tied the game with a single of his own. After a walk to Kyle Tucker loaded the bases, Michael Brantley gave the Astros the lead with a two-run single. Chas McCormick capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Astros' Bullpen Shuts Down Royals

The Astros' bullpen was outstanding in relief of starter Luis Garcia. Ryne Stanek, Phil Maton, and Rafael Montero combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings.

Royals' Offense Stalls After Strong Start

The Royals' offense got off to a good start, scoring three runs in the first three innings. But they were held scoreless over the final six innings by the Astros' bullpen.

Astros Improve to 13-5, Royals Fall to 6-12

With the win, the Astros improve to 13-5 on the season. The Royals fall to 6-12.

Postgame Reaction

"We needed this win," Astros manager Dusty Baker said. "We've been struggling a little bit lately, so it's good to get a win and get back on track."

"We just couldn't get anything going offensively after the third inning," Royals manager Mike Matheny said. "We had some chances, but we couldn't come up with the big hit."
